Have you considered window shrouds for your next architectural project? Designed to increase shading and privacy, window shrouds offer an effective solution for thermal efficiency.
In this article, we focus on the function and form of window shrouds and discuss how they contribute to sustainable building design.
The five key advantages of window shrouds include shade control, energy efficiency, privacy, weather protection, and aesthetic appeal.
By extending outwards from the window frame, a shroud blocks harsh sunlight from a certain angle. This minimises damage caused by UV light and reduces unwanted heat and glare.
By deflecting excessive heat from the sun, window shrouds help maintain a comfortable temperature within a building. This reduces the need for air conditioning, resulting in lower energy consumption and more sustainable living. This also contributes to a property's home star rating.

For increased shading, put louvre blades inside the shroud frame to reduce solar gain. Fixed louvres will increase shading and operable louvres will provide shading flexibility.
By obscuring the direct view from above, below, and the sides, a window shroud creates a feeling of seclusion and separation.
Aluminium window shrouds improve the lifespan of your windows and protect your interior from the elements.
In addition to functionality, window shrouds can be an aesthetic finishing touch or an architectural detail. A window shroud adds texture and depth to the exterior facade, making your development stand out. When you choose an Aurae window shroud, you can specify a range of powder coat colours to complement your overall design.
Standard shrouds comprise a box frame surrounding the window. Download our Window Shroud PS1 document for technical specifications.
Made with 3mm sheet aluminium, these shrouds offer a sleek and minimal appearance. We can also customise the dimensions on each side, creating a tapered shroud. This also enables greater shading on one side of the window than the other.

Fixing details for all cladding types are available, including brick, linear cladding, and metal cladding.
With channel brackets, the window shroud is guided into place and held securely at the edges. This provides a clean, flush installation against the building facade. Keep in mind that the brackets will be visible from the outside.
Our angle brackets are slotted into the back of the shroud, hiding the bracket from view. This creates a sleek appearance, allowing the shroud to blend seamlessly with the window and building exterior.
Custom brackets can be designed to ensure the shroud is as close to the window as possible. This prevents a line of cladding from being visible between the window frame and the shroud.

In addition to our window shrouds, we have a series of window shading products that filter harsh sunlight, reduce solar gain, and improve internal temperatures. These solutions improve shade control and privacy, enhancing your architectural vision at the same time.
Our fixed louvres provide shading, privacy, and an eye-catching architectural statement. Several profile shapes and sizes along with multiple fixing details are available.
Fixed louvre blades
Our operable louvres can be manually or electronically rotated to accommodate the homeowner’s needs. They can simply adjust the blades to increase shade, sunlight, or privacy.
Operable louvre blades
Our rear pivot louvres are mounted without a perimeter frame, creating a seamless finish on the building. The pivot point is behind the louvre blade, removing the need for a bulky frame.
