Project
This architectural and cultural design was inspired by the name Te Uru — which celebrates the west wind that blows through the area, and conceptually captures inspirational themes including flow, movement, energy, and vitality.
The developer wanted to incorporate this cultural element into the building so they engaged with local iwi to work on the design. We also worked with the iwi artist to turn their design into custom sheet metal screens.

Challenge
The challenge was being able to coordinate this design or pattern in a way that accurately represented this design, while also meeting engineering requirements and the New Zealand building code.
Solution
We took this pattern design and converted it into CAD files. This allowed the sheet metal screens to be laser cut and engineered with supporting fixtures. We then coordinated with those on-site to complete the installation, resulting in a cultural architectural element incorporated into the façade.
