Located amongst the boutique vineyards and rolling green hills of Kumeu, this new house by YC Homes stands proud. Against the backdrop of lush trees, the striking combination of timber and matte black cladding commands attention. 

The H-shaped layout allows for an effortless lifestyle, with an outdoor fireplace, expansive glazing, and open-plan spaces. The mixture of natural and contemporary materials is captivating, creating a stylish home that complements its rural surroundings.

Challenge

When the architects at GNR Studio were looking for a customised chimney cowl, they contacted Aurae for feedback and design advice. The objective was to create a functional chimney covering that could blend seamlessly with the main chimney structure and hide the stainless steel flue. 

With the height and angles involved, chimney cowls can pose a challenge in terms of access for installation. The YC Homes team needed a design that could be installed safely, correctly, and efficiently, while still adhering to the home’s aesthetic.

Solution

Two aluminium chimney cowls were supplied in a matte black finish to match the cladding and joinery of the home. The custom design continues the lines of the main chimney structure and hides the stainless steel flue, allowing the architects at GNR Studio to complete the original vision for the project. 

These aluminium chimney cowls provide a low-maintenance solution for both indoor and outdoor fires as they will not warp or fade over time. With increased ventilation and no backflow, these fireplaces will produce powerful heat for the owners for many years to come.
