Perched above the Mangawhai estuary, this home features expansive windows that capture stunning sea views. Aurae was engaged to install motorised sliding shutters that would control solar heat gain without sacrificing the outlook. The automated system allows the homeowners to adjust sun shading from inside, eliminating the need to manually operate shutters on the second storey.

Challenge

Whilst the large second-storey windows offered beautiful estuary views, they created significant solar control issues that caused rooms to overheat. The homeowners needed aluminium louvre shutters that could provide effective sun shading without blocking their sea views. Manual operation at this height would be impractical, requiring an automated solution.

Solution

We installed motorised sliding shutter systems that give homeowners complete control over sun exposure at the touch of a button. The project required close coordination with a structural engineer to ensure proper support for the automation system and shutters in both open and closed positions. The result is a flexible system that closes for sun shading when needed or opens fully to showcase the estuary views.
