Our favourite projects of 2022

Throughout 2022, the Aurae team have been fortunate enough to work on many exciting louvre projects around New Zealand. Having completed both practical solutions and architectural facades, we are proud of the solutions our team was able to provide, for both architects and homeowners hoping to transform their spaces and make houses look good.

Project 1 - Canopies, pergolas, window shrouds, and louvres in Hobsonville

Products: Horizon entrance canopies, Caldera 150 fixed louvre pergolas, 200x50 window shrouds, mixed profile vertical louvres.
Location: Hobsonville, Auckland

First on the list and one of our favourite projects of the year is a multi-residential development in Hobsonville, Auckland.

The team at Construkt Architects reached out, seeking to incorporate numerous Aurae products into their design. The urban location and visibility of the site required clever strategies to achieve the seclusion and ambience that residents look for in a home. With entrance canopies, pergolas, window shrouds, and vertical louvres combined in a minimalist colour scheme, the architects knew the result would be both visually captivating and functional.

On a selection of the windows, 200mm x 50mm shrouds were used to add dimension, sun shading, and privacy to the homes. Throughout the design, vertical louvres were also implemented to add shade control and weather protection and to enhance the overall aesthetic.

Horizon canopies were used at the main entrance doors to provide street appeal and convenient shelter for residents. These cost-effective, simple, and smart additions seamlessly blend with the modern lines of the architecture, without disrupting the urban environment. Above several of the exterior doors and windows, Caldera 150mm fixed louvre pergolas were also installed to bring the project together.

We are delighted with the result, noting how the products effortlessly integrate into the overall design. Combined with the red and white bricks, black joinery, grey weatherboards, and red entrance doors, our sophisticated products are a harmonious match.

Project 2 - Vertical louvres in Orewa

Products: Caldera 150 clasp-fixed vertical louvres
Location: Orewa, Auckland

Another of our top projects in 2022 was this contemporary townhouse development in Orewa, Auckland. Partnering with ZYJ Group Ltd, the Aurae team supplied a series of fixed vertical louvres for the exterior of the building, elevating the facade. These louvres also provide sun control inside the homes, while ensuring a private sanctuary for the occupants. With the adjacent townhouses so close, this is a sought-after feature.

At Aurae, our promise is to make houses look good and this project is no exception. Against the practical, boxy structure of the building, the sleek lines of the louvres add visual interest and depth, catching the eye of every passerby.

For ZYJ Group Ltd, it was vital to add style and value to the surrounding space, both for the benefit of residents and to obtain Resource Consent. To achieve that, the neutral colour scheme of the building has a calming feel, with white cladding, rich timber, black joinery, and vibrant tropical planting paired perfectly with the warm tones and dramatic patterns of the louvres.

Project 3 - Opening louvre roof in Epsom

Products: Solaris motorised opening louvre roof
Location: Epsom, Auckland

Nestled in the coveted suburb of Epsom, this residential project is an outstanding example of how a louvre roof can transform an outdoor living space.

Aurae worked with 10x10 Architecture to design and install a large-scale opening louvre roof, significantly extending the home's living space. Now, the residents can enjoy the lush surroundings, peaceful atmosphere, and indoor-outdoor flow, no matter the weather. In that sense, the sheltered deck serves as an outdoor room overlooking the Hauraki Gulf and central city, perfect for entertaining and relaxing.

This particular louvre roof exhibits how a custom design can complement a house whilst still offering functionality. The L-shape hugs the deck perfectly and the dark colour pairs nicely with the matching joinery, timber cladding, and copper accents. We’re thrilled with the finished result and glad to see our louvres made such a positive impact on this stylish home.
