When Matz Architects required a bespoke facade solution for this residential development, they reached out to our louvre experts. 

Located in the upscale district of Remuera, the Mainston Terraces project provides 15 high-end townhouses. These luxurious homes feature a combination of three or four bedrooms, ideal for families who enjoy a balance between city convenience and lush suburban life.

Challenge

For the client, privacy was a top priority in this development. With fifteen terraced homes on the site, they wanted to create a sense of seclusion within each home, while still letting in ample sunlight and airflow. 

Given the northern orientation of the site, there was also a need for increased shade control. This would allow homeowners to manage the internal temperature more effectively and improve energy efficiency. 

In addition, the brief also required manufacturing and supply to be streamlined and efficient. With strict deadlines, compliance, and aesthetics taken into consideration, Aurae were eager to get started. 

Solution

To provide maximum shade control and privacy, we manufactured a combination of fixed vertical louvres and opening louvre roofs. The crisp white structured lines create a cohesive and modern finish.

The fixed louvres act as a filter for the large windows, allowing sunlight and airflow through while also creating an intimate atmosphere. This stops neighbours from seeing inside, but still allows residents to enjoy the surrounding views.

Each of the fifteen homes features its own opening louvre roof, providing shelter and seclusion for outdoor living. This extends the residents’ liveable space beyond the four walls of the house.

We assisted the team at Matz Architects with engineering for the louvres and opening roofs to ensure compliance with the NZ Building Code. We also partnered with Accent Construction Interiors Ltd, providing supply and installation services to ensure the project was completed on time.
